Period Pills
What are Period Pills?
Period Pills are medications you can take if you suspect that you are pregnant when you don’t want to be. We also call these “missed” or “late” period pills or “menstrual regulation pills.” The difference between period pills and medication abortion pills is that you do not have to take a pregnancy test or confirm you are pregnant before using period pills.
What do period pills do?
If you are pregnant when you take the pills, these pills will cause an abortion and end the pregnancy. This will be the same experience as having an early medication abortion. If you are not pregnant when you take the pills, you will experience bleeding when you start your regular period. You may not know which has taken place.
Period pills are safe; they have been used around the world for decades. They are more than 90% effective at ensuring a state of non-pregnancy.
Can I get pills from The Masschusetts Medication Abortion Access Project (The MAP)?
Yes! The MAP offers the mifepristone/misoprostol regimen as period pills to residents of all 50 US states and all US territories as well as those with military and state department addresses.
If the first day of your last menstrual period was between 25 and 56 days ago, you may be eligible for period pills. You can request period pills here. Our period pill service costs $75 – we are unable to offer subsidized care. If you are unable to pay $75, you can take a pregnancy test and if it is positive, you can request abortion pills.
